Featuring Greg Alan Williams. Companies that teach sensitivity training could use this program within their larger curriculum.
Step Up! Speak Up! is for companies that want to empower their employees to help eliminate disrespect in the workplace. It’s an approach for companies willing to establish a sensitive, effective process whereby each employee can speak up for respect by being “a stop sign” to disrespectful words and actions. Each company is different and administrative levels must do the work to determine the best approach for their company’s culture. Success depends on management doing the work first and taking the time to create a solid plan. Once onboard, all levels of management should model the respectful behavior by walking the walk and talking the talk. After several months of setting the tone, it’s time to roll out Step Up! Speak Up! to front line employees. Use the approach of small groups and small steps. Get everyone’s input. Determine the most effective, respectful way for employees to speak to one another to assure a respectful workplace. Have thorough discussions on what behavior is acceptable and what is not, how to approach co-workers and how not to. Cover the ways management has strengthened company policies and practices to support a respectful workplace and respectful employees.
